At age 9 (01/25/2008) while attending an indoor Powwow Cameron Williams was hanging out with "Grandfather" Larry Grigsby in his booth and his Granddaughter Zoe and decided to draw pictures to sell in order to raise money for the soldiers. She decided that she would give the money to the Head Veteran that weekend Brian Darst. Just by drawing pictures on paper torn from a book, she raised $38.00 which was donated by Brian Darst to the local VFW/American Legion.
My husband Keith and I told Cameron what a wonderful idea this was and asked her if she would like to continue. Cameron was very excited and said "yes." Together we discussed options for things Cameron could sell to continue raising money, and we decided on the hand made jewelry.
I had heard on the Bob and Tom radio show about the care package drive they do around the holidays and I asked them for information. I presented Cameron with this idea and she really liked it. We purchase the supplies and donate them to the Project so that 100% of the money that Cameron raises goes directly to the U.S.O. for Care Packages.
In April Michael Bradely of the Clermont Sun wrote an article about Cameron and published it in the paper. In May Cameron gave her project a name, W.O.L.F Project (Warriors Opened Lines of Freedom).
On November 6, 2008 Cameron turned 10, and two days after she broke the $1,000.00 mark at the Amelia Veterans salute held at Amelia Elementary. At this event Cameron met Senator Niehaus, a represenative for Jean Scmidt, a represenitive of Voinovich, County Commissioner Bob Proud and many more. On December 10, 2008 Cameron was invited by the Clermont County Veterans Services Commission to their monthly board meeting.
Cameron was asked to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Following the Pledge President Danny Bare introduced Cameron to the members of the board. He spoke about Cameron and also told her how important the W.O.L.F Project is to the soldiers.
Danny turned the floor over to Bob Derr who presented Cameron with a framed certificate and a check (for the project) of $250.00. Reporters from Clermont Sun & Clermont Community journal were in attendance and interviewed Cameron (Read the articles.).
Year to date she has raised over $4,000.00, $4,000.00 of which has been sent in for care packages. All of the items Cameron sells is $3.00, so she has worked very hard to accomplish such a feat.
